Employees of the Yokohama Technical Center volunteer to clean and mow the area around the Center, six times a year.
For two consecutive years, the Yokohama Technical Center has been recognized by the city of Yokohama as a Three-star Facility for Excellence in Waste Separation. The title was conferred on the Technical Center by the city at a ceremony for the Yokohama Environmental Action Award, held on November 29 at Yokohama’s Shin-Toshi Hall. Since 2005, Yokohama City has recognized large-scale facilities that have made superior efforts to separate waste and recycle as “three-star” facilities. The Yokohama Technical Center was one of 20 facilities that received the honor this year.

In the future also, we will strive together as a company to separate waste and reduce the amount that we produce in an attempt to live up to the title that we have received.
The Yokohama Technical Center holds environmental learning classes for local elementary schoolchildren. These classes seek to increase concern towards the environment among the children who will be responsible for the future, concern that we hope will express itself in action. So far, almost 400 students have received our classes.
During the classes, in addition to enjoying global warming quizzes, the children have had the opportunity to pay a visit to the Yokohama Technical Center and see a variety of equipment, for example a device for mounting ultra-small electronic components on substrates.
In order to stop the drift of children away from science and to increase their interest in and passion for making things, in February 2010 we held classes on electronic handicrafts in which they were able to construct objects using electronics in the Murata Electronics head office on the 19th floor of the Yokohama Landmark Tower.
These classes involved the assembly of electronic objects (“Buru Buru Seijin” and “Ton ton remote control”) using introductory electronics fabrication kits designed and developed by employees of our Yokohama Technical Center in their own time.
30 parents and children participated in the class, and worked at assembling electronic components using tools such as soldering irons. The pleasure was obvious on the children's faces as they held in their hands the kits that they had assembled with their own efforts.
The Yokohama Technical Center commenced “ECO Cap” activities in July 2009.
We collect PET bottle caps from our workplace and our employee's homes, which are then donated to the NPO Ecocap Movement. The sale of these bottle caps funds the purchase of vaccines, which are provided to children around the world.
The collection of the caps has become popular as an easy way of making a contribution to society, and as of February 2010, seven months since we commenced the scheme, we had collected a total of more than 17,000 caps for donation to Ecocap Movement.
