Shielded room in Taipei

Overview

Taiwan Murata Electronics Co., Ltd. installed EMI*1 noise measurement equipment in Taipei in June 2013 and has started analysis and solution support service for EMI noise.

Background

Various EMC*2 issues have arisen accompanying the recent growth of wireless technologies. These EMC issues can have effects such as reduced mobile phone and tablet PC sensitivity, mutual interference between AV equipment, and communications interference by onboard equipment, so standards are being established in various countries. In order to clear these standards, all manufacturers of electronic equipment including mobile phones, home electronics and onboard equipment must perform design that does not emit noise and is also resistant to noise. However, as electronic equipment becomes more compact and communication speeds increase, these measures are becoming more complex with each passing day.

Murata set up the Design and Engineering Center at Murata (China) Investment Co., Ltd. in 2007 with an aim to provide quick technical services to customers in Chinese-speaking regions. We installed EMI noise measurement equipment in Shanghai and Shenzhen in 2008 that was specifically intended to provide EMC technical support. We also set up an electromagnetic anechoic chamber building "Murata EMC-LAB" in Shanghai in 2010 and a shielded room in Beijing in 2012, and are providing support for EMC issues to set manufacturers based on technologies we have developed and acquired over the years.

Murata' s support for EMI issues is being used by many customers in Chinese-speaking regions. Our facilities and services are receiving high marks for enabling customers to reduce the time and cost required to implement noise suppression, by providing measures for EMC issues from the initial design stages. Consequently, we have set up a shielded room and measuring equipment at Taiwan Murata Electronics Co., Ltd. for the purpose of reinforcing our support framework for customers in Taiwan, which is home to many design bases for Chinese-speaking regions.

Murata will contribute to realizing comfortable noise-free communication environments by expanding sales of our EMI suppression components through a technical support service that provides solutions to EMC issues based on original technologies we have developed and acquired over the years.

Outline of solutions for EMC issues

Murata utilizes our latest EMC issue solution components to propose solutions that fully apply the results of EMI noise analysis on circuit boards verified by our magnetic near-field distribution measurement instrument*3, measurements of mobile phone reception sensitivity, and our company' s EMI noise suppression know-how.

Outline of facilities

Shielded room

One room: 1.90 (W) x 2.80 (L) x 2.32 (H) m
Refers to a room that reduces or blocks the entry of electromagnetic waves from outside the room and leakage of electromagnetic waves from inside the room.

Magnetic near-field distribution measurement instrument

One unit: Refers to equipment that measures the noise distributed on a circuit board and displays the measurement data in visual form.

Reception sensitivity measurement instrument

One unit: Refers to equipment that measures mobile phone (GSM/WCDMA) reception sensitivity.

Cable EMI measurement instrument

One unit: Refers to equipment that measures the EMI noise of cables (USB/HDMI) used to connect equipment.

EMI measurement instrument for compact equipment

One unit: Refers to equipment that measures the EMI noise emitted from compact equipment.

Terminology

*1 EMI: Acronym for electromagnetic interference.
*2 EMC: Acronym for electromagnetic compatibility; refers to electronic device characteristics that are not affected by electromagnetic waves.
*3 Magnetic near-field distribution measurement instrument: Refers to equipment that measures the noise distributed on a circuit board and displays the measurement data in visual form.
