Mounting

Can we use a soldering iron to mount the Trimmer Capacitor?

All of our company's Trimmer Capacitors can be mounted using a soldering iron.
However, be sure to follow the precautions given below.

TZS2/TZY2/TZV2/TZC3/TZW4

  • Use filiform solder with a chlorine content of 0.5 weight-percent or less.
  • Supply filiform solder to the bottom of the terminal so that the solder area is 0.5 to 2mm in diameter or less. Pay attention so that flux is not applied to any part other than the terminal. If the amount of supplied solder is excessively large or is supplied to the upper part of the terminal, flux or solder may penetrate into the moving parts, possibly freezing the rotor or resulting in imperfect contact.
    Moreover, pay attention so that the soldering iron tip does not touch the stator, otherwise the stator may be damaged. (Reference procedures)

TZB4

  • Use filiform solder with a chlorine content of 0.5 weight-percent or less
  • Supply filiform solder to the bottom of the terminal. Pay attention so that flux is not applied to any part other than the terminal. If the amount of supplied solder is excessively large or is supplied to the upper part of the terminal, flux or solder may penetrate into the moving parts, possibly freezing the metal rotor or resulting in imperfect contact. Moreover, pay attention so that the soldering iron tip does not touch the resin casing, otherwise the casing may be damaged.

TZ03

  • Use filiform solder with a chlorine content of 0.5 weight-percent or less.
  • Pay attention so that the amount of supplied solder is neither excessively small nor large. If the amount is excessively small, insufficient solder joint strength will occur. If the amount is excessively large, solder bridging will occur.
  • Pay attention so that the soldering iron tip does not touch the resin casing, otherwise the casing may be damaged.

[Reference procedures for soldering TZS2/TZY2/TZV2/TZC3/TZW4 chip trimmer capacitor]

Procedure 1: Pre-soldering to the land for the positive (hot) terminal

(Precautions)
Supply solder so that the solder height is approximately half of the terminal height. Do not supply too much.
If the amount of supplied solder is excessively large, flux may penetrate into the inside of the trimmer capacitor.

Procedure 2: Preheating the pre-supplied solder

(Precautions)
Direct the soldering iron tip to the positive (hot) terminal, and sufficiently preheat the pre-supplied solder and land.
Insufficient preheating will cause soldering failure.

Procedure 3: Soldering the terminal

(Precautions)
Slide the trimmer capacitor toward the soldering iron tip, and heat the positive (hot) terminal (within 3s in total).
At this time, direct the iron tip perpendicularly to the positive (hot) terminal so that the iron tip touches the terminal. Do not bring the iron tip into contact with the trimmer capacitor body. Do not supply any additional solder.

Procedure 4: Cooling

(Precautions)
Fix and cool the trimmer capacitor until the solder has set.
If the trimmer capacitor is moved before the solder has set, dislocated soldering will occur.

Procedure 5: Soldering the negative (ground) terminal

(Precautions)
Direct the soldering iron tip perpendicularly to the negative (ground) terminal so that the iron tip touches the terminal, preheat the terminal and land, and then supply filiform solder. As in procedures 1 and 3 above, pay attention so that the amount of supplied solder is not excessively large.
If the amount of supplied solder is excessively large, trimmer adjustment failure may occur.
