President/Statutory Representative Director: Tsuneo Murata

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has commercialized a magnetic switch ideal for open/close detection for mobile phones, note-size PCs and digital cameras, etc.
By using Murata’s own circuit design technology we have been able to reduce both the size and cost. A comprehensive lineup of this product, encompassing high and low sensitivity models, can accommodate a wide range of technological requirements.
In addition to industrial standard packages such as SOT23 and SON4, we have also developed an ultra-small size package at 1.0x0.9x0.5mm to help make overall packaging smaller and with a lower-profile.
Until now, mechanical switches have been used for open/close detection for mobile phones and note-size PCs; however recently, magnetic switches and magnetic field sensors have been gaining popularity. Unlike their mechanical counterparts, magnetic switches eliminate wear caused by contact between sensor and magnet making it more reliable. Additionally, magnetic switches make it possible to design water-tight products with the switches being protected from the outside elements.
Demand for magnetic switches is projected to accelerate as equipment manufacturers adopt magnetic switches in applications that have utilized mechanical switches in the past.
