Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has been awarded "the Thomson Reuters 2011 Top 100 Global Innovator Award" , and was presented with the trophy on January 26.
The award was granted based on high scores in the evaluation criteria of Success, Global, Influence and Volume, in regards to how the company handled intellectual property activities.
Going forward, Murata plans to continue working diligently to maximize the intellectual property value of the Murata Group as a whole.
Murata Manufacturing performed well across all the criteria comprising the Thomson Reuters Top 100 Global Innovators. One of its highest areas was in the company' s global approach to protecting its inventions, an indication that Murata realizes the significance of its innovation and therefore seeks protection in the Quadrilateral Patent Index authorities: Japan, China, the U.S. and the EPO. Murata also received more than four times the number of citations to the size of its portfolio for the period covered. Murata Manufacturing is truly one of the world' s top 100 innovators.

"The Thomson Reuters 2011 Top 100 Global Innovator Award" is presented by global information service company Thomson Reuters (HQ: New York; Tokyo office: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) , which selects companies that are in the forefront of intellectual property trends based on an analysis of such trends using the intellectual property data it collects. The award has four basic evaluation criteria: Success, Global, Influence and Volume. Data including patent approval success rate, global reach of the patent portfolio, patent influences on literature citations, and overall patent volume, are all taken into consideration when selecting award winners.
