Q. Please let me know the features of Piezo Speakers.
Q. What is the difference between Piezo Speakers and Dynamic Speakers?
Q. How can I drive Piezo Speakers?
Piezo speaker can be an ultra thin device as it generates sound by the flexure vibration of a thin piezo ceramic plate.
Murata offers piezo speakers of variety of thickness ranging from 0.5mm to 1.2mm to suit any of your demand.

Dynamic speakers generate sound with vibration of a diaphragm film by utilizing the electromagnetic force of a magnet and a coil, while piezo speakers do only with a thin piezo ceramic plate attached to a diaphragm film by utilizing the piezoelectric vibration of the ceramic itself.
This structure enables piezo speakers to be ultra thin.
Due to the magnet-less structure, piezo speakers are free from iron sand inhalation problem, and have no influence to the magnetic sensors or memory card slots, as they do not generate magnetic field.
In addition, Piezo speakers help expanding the battery life as they generally consume less electrical power than dynamic speakers.
Just like dynamic speakers, you need an audio amplifier to drive piezo speakers, however, those amplifiers designed for dynamic speakers may not be able to generate enough voltage to drive piezo hard enough, resulting the sound not as loud as expected.
As the piezo speakers are voltage-driven type of devices, it is recommendable to take audio amplifiers designed to drive piezo. There are many types of such amplifiers available in the market. Contact us for more assistance if needed.
The electrical power consumption of piezo speakers including drive circuit varies according to the audio amplifier used, however, piezo speakers generally consume less power compared to dynamic speakers.
The combination of piezo speaker and class-D amplifier shows extremely small power consumption.
Yes, we've developed the world’s first waterproof Piezo speaker.
