Wireless Power Transmission Modules

FAQ of Wireless Power Transmission Module

Is this the very first commercialization of the capacitive coupling units?

Yes, Murata is the first company to mass-produce these units.

How effectively do they charge?

It is possible to charge equipment as efficiently as wired charging.
(However, the efficiency depends on the power specifications of the equipment featuring this unit.)

From what distance can equipment be charged?

Although it depends on the design, power can be transmitted between a few millimeters to several dozen centimeters.
However, because charging from a distance may create problems with legal compliance or pheripheral equipment, Murata aims, in principle, at transmission of a few millimeters.

What are the charging pad dimensions?

Demensions depend on specifications. Here are examples of prototype charging pads.

  • Smartphone charging pad Thickness: 10mm Surface area: 150mm x 150mm
  • Digital reading device charging pad Thickness: 25mm Surface area: 450mm x 280mm

Can any equipment be charged on a common charging pad?

It depends on the system design. Although the number of pieces of equipment that can be charged is limited, it is possible to charge multiple pieces of equipment on a common charging pad.

What parts and how much space are required for mounting this unit?

A power receiving module and power receiving electrode are necessary. Secondary batteries may be needed depending on customer application. (Power can be transmitted without a secondary battery.)
As the space required varies depending on specifications, please contact us.

How does the unit affect electronic equipment and wireless communication systems in the area?

Shields are used as a noise suppression measure to prevent any interference.
Our noise suppression measures satisfy Comité International Spécial des Perturbations Radioélectriques (CISPR) requirements for Hitachi Maxell Ltd.'s iPad2 wireless charger, "Air Voltage for iPad" (scheduled for release in November 2010) .
