Murata Elektronik joins Association for Automatic Identification and Mobility

Nürnberg: Murata Elektronik GmbH has become a Manufacturer-member of the German chapter of AIM, the worldwide industry association for Automatic Identification and Mobility. Representing automatic identification and mobility technology solution providers, AIM has led the way in industry standards, education and outreach since 1972.

“We look forward to actively working together with the other AIM members on the expansion of the RFID market, development of AIM standards and educating the world on the benefits of RFID technology,” comments Alexander Schmoldt, in charge of RFID Business Development for Murata in Europe. “By introducing innovative technologies, we believe that we can contribute a lot to the AIM forum and open up new business opportunities to the RFID community.”

Murata's first step in building up an innovative RFID offering is centered on Magicstrap. This UHF RFID IC-module opens up new tag construction possibilities. The inductive coupling technology incorporated into its ceramic multilayer base allows highly reliable antenna connection while avoiding the need for conductive glue. Being also a full SMT component, Magicstrap allows a PCB, the core of any electronic device, to become an EPC Global standard compliant RFID tag. Anti-counterfeit measures and advanced traceability are only some of the potential applications of this technology.

While Magicstrap has already reached its second generation, Murata is preparing to launch the world’s smallest UHF reader-writer module. This portfolio will enable partners to offer complete solutions and allow building very small reader-writers. Schmoldt closes: “Our goal is to enable mobile phones with integrated UHF reader-writer functions. From that moment on, services based on UHF RFID technology will be possible. This will give a significant momentum to the RFID world.”
