Disruptive technologies and innovative solutions

Startups are innovative by nature and are constantly improving their business models, processes, and portfolio which allows them to adapt to disruptive technologies and changes in market conditions. A startup’s approach to dealing with challenges can be very different from a large corporation and the proposed solutions can be refreshingly different.

Benefits of working with a large corporation

Nine out of ten startups fail though, so what goes wrong and why? The lack of resources on offer is often to blame. A startup operates on a much smaller budget in comparison with a well-resourced corporation. These large companies certainly have an advantage in terms of their product development, sales channel and marketing spend.

Working with Murata

Murata would like to work you if your organisation is a startup, university, research institution or other organisation focussed on creating innovative products and technologies. By partnering with us, your organisation can gain the resources and legitimacy it needs to succeed.

Open Innovation website

As part of Murata’s commitment to innovating for the future, we have launched the Open Innovation website. This dedicated website simplifies the engagement process with Murata and will help startups to establish long-term relationships with us. Here are our website aims:

  • Encourage collaboration partners to innovate with Murata.
  • Facilitate the development of solutions for the mobility, energy, healthcare and wireless markets.
  • Provide a gateway for startups to access a broad range of Murata resources including R&D assistance, channels to market, mass production capabilities, financial backing and market access.

The three stages of engagement

Our Open Innovation website separates the technology commercialisation process into three stages and outlines the assistance on offer for each stage.

  1. Establishing a technology
    • We can assist with R&D engineering resources and expertise.
    • Murata can help with non-recurring engineering expenses for joint research, development and evaluation.
  2. Preparing for mass production
    • Murata can offer process engineering and quality engineering resources.
  3. Starting mass production and scaling up
    • Murata can provide partners with large-scale production capabilities.
    • We have a global supply chain which can be put at our partners’ disposal.
    • Murata will consider establishing joint ventures and licensing products with partners.

Areas and examples of collaboration

Murata is looking for partners in the mobility, energy, healthcare, and wireless markets. For example, the Brain Navi is a fascinating healthcare market collaboration project. It is a brainwave sensor and analysis platform which measures and provides real-time feedback on event-related potential (ERP). An ERP is the measured brain response that is the direct result of a specific sensory, cognitive or motor event and is a non-invasive way of evaluating brain function. ERPs can be used to identify and classify perceptual, memory and linguistic operations.

Murata would like to meet startups interested in developing new applications for this visualized cognitive information. If your organisation is working on learning methods, employee training or games etc. where the Brain Navi could be used, then get in touch.

Engaging with Murata

If you would like to partner with Murata then please fill out the contact form on the Open Innovation website and a Murata team member will contact you to discuss your proposal. We are very interested in hearing from anyone with an exciting solution in one of our key development areas: mobility, energy, healthcare, and wireless.

If you’re ready to collaborate then we want to hear from you! Go to the Open Innovation website.
