Announcing the completion of a new building in Murata Manufacturing's Yokaichi Plant

Overview

Today we held a "new building completion ceremony" at Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.'s Yokaichi Plant for the purpose of improving development efficiency.

Background and Details

Commencing operations in March 1962, the Yokaichi Plant began as a supply base for ceramic raw materials and subsequently expanded its functions by entering into the electronics market. Currently, the Plant is engaged in work ranging from the development of ceramic raw materials to production, ceramic engineering and processing of end products, the only base of the company focused on activities from the upstream to downstream of ceramic electronic components.

In 2012, the 50th anniversary of the opening of the plant, we have constructed the new Building D for the purpose of upgrading our aging infrastructure facilities and improving development efficiency in order to facilitate future growth. Building D is a research and development building that consolidates the development divisions scattered within the current plant. Here, we are advancing the exercise of synergy and the enhancement of our technical platform improvement to create new products.

In addition, we have introduced the wireless switch-type equipment developed by the company into a portion of the lighting in Building D in order to easily respond to layout modifications when enhancing future development functions. Furthermore, we have adopted LED lighting and formulated the design to incorporate energy conservation.

I believe it is most significant that this new building that brings the development divisions together was constructed on the 50th anniversary of the Plant. The completion of the building will further accelerate activities, enable new technology, materials and products to be produced at the Yokaichi Plant, the foundation of Murata Manufacturing, and contribute to the development and social contribution of Murata Manufacturing.

Yokaichi Plant Details

Commencing in March 1962, the Yokaichi Plant opened as a sophisticated factory that introduced new facilities and manufacturing methods in response to the increasing demand for ceramic condensers. Since then, in order to achieve a higher level of "scientific management" at the source, the plant has constantly been engaged in the development and production of raw materials (from mixing to shaping and firing) and has supplied "ceramic raw materials" and "ceramic elements (ceramic semi-finished products) " to the manufacturing bases of the Murata Manufacturing group both in Japan and overseas based on the concept "new electronic equipment comes from new electronic components and new electronic components come from new materials". Moreover, some "finished products" such as EMI suppression filters are being produced and delivered to customers around the world. In addition, the Plant performs the important role of acting as development base for the processing technology for the manufacture of such products. It is the only base at Murata with the full spectrum of functions from the development of ceramic raw materials to the ceramic engineering and production of end products.

As a production base that handles three types of products, namely, "materials (raw materials) ," "semi-finished products (ceramic engineering) " and "finished products (monolithic products) ," the Plant creates high-dimensional development know-how from the interaction and integration of the three different phases and will continue to support electronics throughout the world.
