Reason 1Printed circuit boards are not required
Since lead wires are used to directly mount a capacitor to a terminal, components can be added without using a printed circuit board.
The size of the component itself is small, and can be mounted in minimum space.

Reason 2Can be welded directly to a metal terminal (bus bar, frame)
In order to directly mount a chip component to a metal terminal, it is necessary to change the design of the shape, etc. of the metal terminal according to the chip component. Furthermore, there is also a concern of cracks occurring on chip components from mechanical stress. Since leaded products can be mounted by welding, they can easily be mounted without changing the design of a metal terminal, and there is also no concern about cracking because the lead wires absorb the mechanical stress.
Murata also offers a lineup of products that can endure high-temperature environments, such as lead type multilayer ceramic capacitors, that can be used in conditions over 150°C if only for a short time.
Reason 3Material of lead wires can be changed to copper
In the standard catalog specifications, CP wire (copper plated steel wire) is indicated as the material of the lead wire; however, it can be changed to copper wire.
