Leaded components are selected for the following reasons.

Reason 1 Both noise and surges can be reduced at the same time.

Since chip capacitor and chip varistor devices are combined into a single component to which lead wires are attached, both noise and surges can be countered simultaneously.

Reason 2Replacing two components used previously with a single small-sized component contributes to space-saving design.

Previously, a capacitor and a varistor were mounted, but since a single component now fulfills the roles of the capacitor and varistor, it is possible to reduce the mounting footprint and volume while achieving the same effect. Small-sized chip components are used as the devices so the components themselves come in small sizes.

Reason 3By halving the number of parts used, the number of mounting sessions, mounting costs, and control costs can all be reduced.

Since just the one leaded component needs to be mounted onto the circuit board, mounting costs as well as component control costs can be lowered.
