Basic properties

This shows the signals output by shock sensors for various accelerations.
The vertical axis indicates the acceleration output by the shock sensor, and the horizontal axis indicates the time.

  1. Shock sensors have little output when slow acceleration is applied, such as when moved over large distances by hand,
  2. but when they are subjected to rapid, large shocks, such as drops,
  3. they produce output which corresponds to the speed and size of the shock they were subjected to.
  4. The direction from which the shock was applied determines whether their output begins on the plus or minus sides, making it possible to use them to determine the directions of shocks.
