New Module Integrates SoC, RAM, Flash Storage, WiFi®, and Bluetooth® Onto Single Board

Murata Americas today introduced a System-On-Module (SoM) for Google's Android Things®, a trusted Internet of Things (IoT) platform.  Developers can use Murata's new SprIoT series of SoM as a turnkey hardware solution that readily enables scaling from prototypes to complete products.  The SprIoT series integrates a SoC, RAM, Flash Storage, WiFi®, Bluetooth®, and other components onto a single board.  Additionally, the module comes with all the pertinent FCC/IC certifications.  Target markets include smart devices such as routers, speakers, and video cameras, healthcare and medical equipment, industrial measurement and monitoring, HVAC systems, and numerous other applications.

As an approved Google turnkey hardware device, the SprIoT series considerably reduces upfront costs and associated risks.  The fully integrated WiFi and BLE drivers also shorten time to market. Further, it delivers a high level of interconnectivity so designers can simplify their base board or main PCB development to optimize speed, timing, and bus-width functions.

"With the SoM, building devices is now within reach for everyone – even if they have never designed embedded systems before," said Mehul Udani, General Manager, Connectivity Solutions, Murata Americas.  "Murata's solution is unique to our company because we have the experience and know-how to bundle several advanced technological components and ICs into a concise package.  We will continue to innovate other variants to not only meet, but exceed market demands."

"Developers for IoT are demanding turnkey solutions that are easy-to-use and shorten development time to market," said Robert Thompson i.MX ecosystem manager at NXP.  "Featuring NXP's i.MX6 UltraLite processor, the Murata module offers developers an effective solution that will contribute greatly to the momentum of innovative possibilities that Google’s Android Things offers.  Further, it tackles the complexities of interconnectivity and certifications needed for the development of end nodes."

Other embedded features include an i.MX6 UltraLite processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of flash storage, and several connectors – camera, USB OTG, USB host, Ethernet, and SD.  Moreover, the SoM houses a 2.4GHz antenna.  Measuring just 40mm x 40mm x 5.5mm, the WSC-WB252-ADA-SM1 achieves an operating temperature range of -20° to 75°C and a 5V input rating.  There are also several on-board sensors, including digital magnetometers, accelerometers, and gyroscopes.
