Variable Capacitors

Overview

Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has launched an NFC*1 variable capacitor*2 (LXRW19V201-058) with improved capabilities to withstand voltage*3. This product is mainly intended for use in card readers equipped with an NFC function (POS*4 systems). This product entered mass production in April 2018 at Okayama Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

In contrast to the conventional use of variable capacitors in smartphones and mobile phones, card readers typically require a constant AC voltage impression to function. This product redefines the structure of the internal capacitor to enable the card reader to withstand a 30 Vpp AC output under a constant voltage impression (triple the conventional voltage withstanding capabilities).
NFC card reader frequency needs to be precisely tuned in order to meet the needs for miniaturization as a mobile device and to support EMV*5. This product has been developed to meet these needs.
