Murata Electronics and Point One Navigation, a leader in delivering precise positioning for the next generation of transportation, today announced their collaboration to accelerate precise positioning in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving (AD). As part of this teaming, Point One qualified Murata’s SCHA600 Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for inclusion within its Atlas Reference Platform. The result is a standalone solution that delivers precise positioning to a variety of applications, including ADAS and AD.

Atlas is a reference platform that can be integrated into production solutions and includes an automotive-grade multi-frequency GNSS receiver, a 64-bit ARM quad core processor, and built-in cellular modem with SIM card. Atlas also serves as a complete solution for fleets in OEM development, delivery, municipal, private, and other fast-deploy applications. Embedded in the platform is Point One’s FusionEngine, the most powerful and adaptable sensor fusion solution available. As a software-only stack, it uses proprietary algorithms to deliver best-in-class, sensor-fused dead reckoning alongside a robust GNSS/INS navigation engine. Multiple data sources are combined by FusionEngine to achieve high accuracy with resilience to extended blockages.

“Point One’s Atlas featuring FusionEngine is a highly adaptable platform that solves critical needs for vehicle autonomy,” said Aaron Nathan, CEO and Co-Founder at Point One. “We are excited to be working with an industry leader such as Murata and the use of SCHA600 IMU provides tremendous chip-level raw performance at an affordable price point.”

Murata has more than 20 years of experience providing inertial sensors for safety critical automotive applications. Murata’s MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) 6DoF (Six Degrees of Freedom) inertial sensors realize high performance for safety-critical automotive applications. These sensors enable new ADAS functionality through data fusion with GNSS and deliver the best performance available for automotive applications in regard to bias stability and noise. The SCHA600 IMU is a single package 6DoF component that can be integrated with GNSS and other perception sensors for L2+ and higher levels of autonomy. The SCHA600 IMU enables centimeter-level accuracy with regard to vehicle dynamics and position, enabling safe, robust and verified AD. Extensive attention has been given to guarantee operation during high mechanical shock and vibration. The SCHA600 IMU is qualified according to the AEC-Q100 standard, includes several advanced self-diagnostic features and is fully ASIL-D (Automotive Safety Integrity Level) compliant.

“Murata’s inertial sensors are enabling a new generation of ADAS and AD functionality,” said Nithin Narayanan, Senior Manager Mobility Business Development, Murata Americas. “We are pleased to be collaborating with an innovator such as Point One and the use of Atlas featuring Fusion Engine leverages the best-in-class performance of the SCHA600 IMU and integrates with GNSS and perception sensors to deliver robust and accurate positioning for vehicle autonomy.”
