Throughout last year, Murata enjoyed a high volume of orders as a result of growing demand in a number of markets. For example, the market for smart phones expanded rapidly, demand for air conditioners surged during the extraordinarily hot summer, and the automobile market saw brisk sales in emerging countries. This growth in demand is expected to continue in the future, particularly for popular new products such as smart phones, tablet PCs, and electronic books, as well as in the environment and energy sector and the automobile sector. To fully satisfy the increasing demand for electronic devices accompanying this trend, let us strengthen our commitment to make Company-wide efforts.

The medium to long-term vision we are currently pursuing divides the market into three segments-core markets, markets in emerging countries, and new markets. Among them, markets in emerging countries, in particular, are displaying exceptional growth, so we must sharpen our competitive edge in this segment by accurately assessing local needs and developing products that satisfy those needs in a timely manner. Toward achieving this goal, I especially encourage our young employees to expose themselves to diverse cultures, physically experience the energy and speed that drive the world, and play an active role in the global arena.
