Silicon Capacitors FAQQWhat is the relationship between BV (breakdown voltage, BDV) and recommended working voltage?


The withstanding voltage of a silicon capacitor is defined by the BV, there is no setting for the rated voltage, and the recommended working voltage is defined by the product lifetime and operating temperature.
Murata indicates as the recommended working voltage, the maximum DC voltage (continuously applied) at which the product is projected to have a service life of 10 years in a 100℃ environment. The maximum recommended working voltage is approximately 1/3 to 1/2 the breakdown voltage depending on operating conditions and target lifetime.
