Polymer Capacitors FAQQIs there a way to estimate the life of products?

A

The characteristics of polymer aluminum electrolytic capacitors, including the ECAS series, gradually degrade and change due to oxidation reactions caused by the temperature and other external environment factors. This is not a failure. These changes in characteristics follow reaction kinetics. Therefore, it is possible to estimate the life of products from the degradation formula.

For example, it is possible to estimate and otherwise calculate the time until there is a 20% decrease with respect to the initial capacitance value. We have prepared the reliability logic and an original simulation tool for the ECAS series. If you input the operating temperature/voltage and capacitance change/ESR change criteria, you can estimate the time (life) until the characteristic degradation and change criteria are reached.

Please refer to the "Aging Degradation Open Document" and utilize our SimSurfing design support software for details.
