Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (Hereinafter referred to as “Murata”) has applied a new function to soil sensors, making measurements available for synthetic culture soil such as rock wool and coconut peat in addition to conventional soil. Provision will begin in September 2023.
In recent years, the use of synthetic culture soil such as rock wool and coconut peat is popular for crops including tomatoes and strawberries. Since the water retention capability of these kinds of culture soil is extremely high compared to general culture soil, proper measurement of water content and EC*1 values was deemed difficult since it was difficult to have the sensor section contact with material.
Murata has provided software updates and added functions to the sensor section, enabling measurement of water content and EC values on rock wool and coconut peat. As a result, improvement of crop quality, increased yield, and resource saving can be achieved through optimal management of water and fertilizer resources in a wide range of cultivation environments.
Murata will continue to develop sensors that meet the agricultural market needs and contribute to achieving sustainable agriculture.
