From Time-Based Monitoring (TBM) to Condition-Based Monitoring (CBM)
By placing the wireless sensors on existing equipment, you can monitor machine conditions, see whether maintenance is needed and visualize its operating rate. The sensor data can also be used to reduce unexpected downtime and stabilize the production quality.

You can complete the system installation just by placing the wireless sensor nodes to the machines you want to monitor. The system is designed to work in harsh environments such as steel mill factories with the use of to the robust sub-1GHz radio and repeaters.

The sensors and gateways are one-time purchase and comes with a free-of-charge Windows application for simple visualization and data logging. No monthly fee or internet connection is required.

Expandability and Flexibility
Murata’s wide variety of wireless sensors can be connected to the gateway and utilized within a single system. This gives you the flexibility to choose appropriate sensors to meet your requirements. The sensors can also be added to the existing system later on as necessary. In addition, it is possible to develop your own visualization or maintenance solution using the API.

What is Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and how does it work?

  • It is common in manufacturing factories that various gauges and meters are monitored manually. You can automate this time-consuming work by using the wireless sensor nodes and can optimize the maintenance process based on the collected sensor data.

 

 

 
  • The traditional preventive maintenance is maintenance that is regularly performed on each machine to reduce the chance of possible defects. This approach is also called Time Based Maintenance or TBM. This method sometimes costs you more than necessary because the parts may be replaced even if the machine still works or the machine may fail between the maintenance intervals. 

 
  • Condition Based Maintenance or CBM is another maintenance approach that utilizes sensor data to see when each machine is likely to fail and when maintenance will need to be performed. CBM has recently become more popular than TBM in the manufacturing industry because it can save you the cost of maintenance drastically by removing the need for regularly maintenance works.
