Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has expanded its lineup of lead-type multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) RCE series for automotive powertrain/safety equipment and RDE series for consumer electronics & industrial equipment with a new product rated at 100Vdc/10μF, achieving the world's smallest size in volume and height among lead-type MLCCs at this rating and capacitance*. This product is intended for use in applications adopting 48V power systems, and mass production began in August 2026.
High-capacitance capacitors rated at 25 to 50Vdc with capacitance of 10μF or higher are commonly used in automotive 12V power systems, including electric power steering (EPS) systems, which assist steering operation using an electric motor, as well as in brake systems, water pumps, and other applications. Meanwhile, as vehicle electrification progresses, the adoption of 48V power systems is expanding, increasing demand for capacitors rated at 100Vdc with capacitance of 10μF or higher.
In consumer and industrial equipment as well, the adoption of 48V power systems is spreading in applications such as humanoid, driven by the growing need for higher functionality and higher output.
The maximum capacitance available in Murata's 100Vdc lead-type MLCCs previously limited to 4.7μF, and the new product achieves a higher capacitance of 10μF. Compared with Murata's existing product of the same size rated at 50Vdc/10μF, the rated voltage has been approximately doubled.
This product consists of an MLCC with lead wires attached, molded in resin. The lead wires absorb mechanical stress caused by board flexure, vibration, and thermal expansion, reducing the load placed on the capacitor body. This construction also allows mounting in locations such as off-board areas, which is difficult to achieve with chip capacitors designed for direct mounting on the board surface.
Murata will continue to develop multilayer ceramic capacitors that meet market needs and to expand its product lineup accordingly.
