Sound Components (Buzzer)Surface-mounted Device (SMD) Piezoelectric Sounders: Request to Prohibit Use in Chemical Atmospheres

Other

Do not use this product in an atmosphere containing chlorine gas, sulfidizing gas, acid, or another corrosive substances.

The characteristics may deteriorate. The sound pressure may then drop or the sound may stop.

How the failure occurs

The conductive material inside the product may deteriorate and a failure may occur.
For example, if the product is used in a sulfide gas atmosphere, the silver used as the conductive material inside the product may sulfurize. Silver sulfide may then be produced. Silver sulfide is not conductive. Therefore, it may cause an open circuit fault.

Sulfidation : H2S + Ag → Ag2S + H2

Case

Normal

Abnormal

The electrode has turned black due to sulfidation.

  • *In order to indicate cases of sulfidation, Murata has example photographs for different part numbers.
