Design Support Tool FAQ

Frequently asked questions

QWhat is the design support tool?

A

In recent years, it is becoming common to confirm circuit operations by simulation in the process of electronic circuit design. The data of Murata products (S-parameters, SPICE models and CAD data) required for simulation, and software which simply calculates the operation of a product is generally called a design support tool.

This data and software of Murata can be used free of charge.

QWhat kind of design support tools are provided by Murata?

A

We provide the following data and software.

  • S-parameters and SPICE models (Netlist) of main components including capacitors and inductors
  • Libraries packaged only for commercial or free circuit simulators
  • CAD/CAE data which can be used for commercial CAD software or Murata's CAE software Femtet®*
  • SimSurfing Open in New Window software which supports selection of products

You can use these tool groups from the design support tools.

*Femtet®
Allows for analysis/training analysis in seven fields (electric field, magnetic field, electromagnetic waves, thermal conduction, stress, piezoelectric, acoustic wave), and is a finite element method analysis system of Murata that enables the creation of models to the results display all-in-one

QCan the design support tool be used for noise suppression?

A

Yes, it can be used.
We provide data (S-parameters and SPICE models) used for SI/PI/EMC analysis which is commonly implemented for noise suppression.
This data can be downloaded from SimSurfing or Murata's Web site.

QI would like to know the measurement conditions of the S-parameters of multilayer ceramic capacitors.

QCan I see the DC bias characteristics and temperature characteristics in high dielectric constant type multilayer ceramic capacitors?

A

Yes, you can see it by using SimSurfing Open in New Window .

You can also see the DC bias characteristics and temperature characteristics of polymer capacitors and some lead type ceramic capacitors.

QWhat is the difference between the static model and dynamic model?

A

The static model refers to a model that only consists of the ideal capacitors, inductors (coils), and resistance based on the data measured in constant conditions. For example, the measurement conditions of multilayer ceramic capacitors are 20℃ or 25℃ temperature with a DC bias applied voltage of 0V.
On the other hand, the temperature dependency and DC bias dependency can be taken into consideration for the dynamic model.

When simulating power lines applied with different voltages, it used to require that multiple static models be prepared, but now such time and effort can be eliminated by using a dynamic model.

QIs it possible to search multilayer ceramic capacitors by specifying an effective value?

A

Yes, it is possible.
"Advanced Search" of SimSurfing Open in New Window will allow you to search by part numbers where the effective values of the capacitance, impedance, ESR and ESL, as well as the DC bias voltage and operating temperature can be specified as the conditions. Please use this search function.
