Leaded MLCCs feature "ease of use"

A leaded MLCC is a resin-coated product consisting of lead wires connected to the electrodes of a chip MLCC.
The resin coating and lead wires provide various added value in addition to the MLCC features of compact size, large capacitance, and long-term reliability.

Five features

1. Products with high wiring flexibility

Leaded MLCCs can be used for boardless mounting called point-to-point construction.
By forming the lead wires, various layouts can be considered even in limited spaces where board use is not desired or boards cannot fit.
These products can also be added relatively easily to existing layouts, making it easy to respond to sudden design changes.

2. Lead wires can be crimped and welded

In addition to wiring by soldering or crimping the lead wire tips with crimping terminals, the lead wires can also be welded. The standard lead wire material is CP wire +Sn/Cu plating, and this can be changed to Cu wire by request.

3. Applicable to a wide range of board mounting and THD

Of course, mounting on boards is also possible!
The lead space can be selected to match the board through-hole layout.
The standard lead spaces are 5 mm and 2.5 mm. In addition to standard products, custom mounting such as 7.5 mm and 10 mm is also available.

4. High environmental resistance and insulation resistance enable use in various locations

Leaded MLCCs are also used in equipment that is used outdoors and in environments inaccessible to people where dust accumulates.
This is due to the long-term reliability of ceramic capacitors and the excellent environmental and insulation resistance provided by the epoxy resin used in the exterior coating.
Taking advantage of this feature, leaded MLCCs have also been adopted in applications with the goal of securing the insulation distance required by IEC/EN standards.

5. Extensive product lineup

Murata provides an extensive lineup of compact, large-capacity high dielectric constant-type and temperature compensation-type MLCCs that have long-term reliability, a maximum rated voltage of 1 kV, and can be used in environments with temperatures up to 150°C.

Due to these features, we also receive inquiries from customers who are considering replacement from film capacitors and electrolytic capacitors.

Application Examples

Leaded MLCCs can be used for applications such as noise suppression, smoothing of power supply voltages, and insulation between boards.

For Automotive Powertrain/Safety Equipment

Brushed DC motors

Leaded MLCCs are used for noise suppression of brushed motors.
Generally speaking, 30–70W motors often have built-in capacitors, and leaded MLCCs that are compact and have excellent environmental durability are used.

High-voltage devices for EV, HV, and MHV

Leaded MLCCs are also used in EVs, HVs, and MHVs in the peripherals of high-power motors and in applications that operate at high voltages.
For example, these include high-power brushless DC motor inverters such as BSG and ISG inverters. For examples of application in other devices, refer to the following pages.

Leaded MLCCs suppress noise that impacts detection accuracy and prevent malfunctions.
They are used in applications where detection accuracy is required, such as temperature sensors for large-capacity batteries and tire speed sensors (on the antenna side).

Leaded MLCCs are also used in engine room applications that require heat resistance and environmental durability.
The RHE series can be used in environments up to 150°C.

The standard specification is CP wire +Sn/Cu plating.
Change to Cu wire is available.

The exterior coating resin material is epoxy resin with excellent environmental resistance and insulation resistance.

5. Lead space

The standard specifications are 5.0 mm and 2.5 mm.
